Tutorial install android on n900 in 7 steps
« on: September 18, 2012, 01:23:03 pm »
Hi everyone, this is an easy guide to install a nitdroid gingerbread 2.3.4 to your nokia n900 in 7 steps!

1) download and extract the nitdroid 2.3.4 archive on the desktop

2) copy the extract files to the phone memory

3) enable the wifi connection and open file manager and install the 4 files from the folder called "extras"
(before you install the files you must remove the memory card and after the installation to put again in the n900)

4) open xterminal:

root

cd /home

mkdir /and

cd /

mount /home /and

close xterm

5) open xterminal:

root

apt-get install nitdroid-installer

apt-get install bzip2

close xterm

6) open file manager and install nitdroid-installer_0.2.7_armel.deb

7) open xterminal:

root

cd /home/user/MyDocs

bzip2 -d N12_UMay.tar.bz2

mount /dev/mmcblk1p2 /and

cd /and

tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/N12_UMay.tar

cd /home/user/MyDocs

dpkg -i nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-07_rc4_armel.deb

done now just reboot and press 2.

Not to discourage you, but if written for newbies for "understandable" easy installation this won't be 7 steps. For example, explain how you extract and copy NIT files to "root"? :) You get what I mean
Google Nexus 4 / Google Nexus 7 (2013) WiFi / Sony Xperia SP / Samsung Galaxy Gear / HTC Incredible S
Nokia N900 in the drawer...

Time to move on - I already did. Don't get your hopes too high with our ageing N900/N9. Voice callers go damn.

Look for more detailed tutorials in other threads and also talk.maemo.org. Do some search and be patient. N900 is a device hard to play with indeed and you OUGHT TO get familiar with it before you sit back and enjoy anything.
If you're still stuck then tell me where you stop and I'm glad to give ya a hand :)

@zeeshanahad

A little late reaction, but I just read about your problem.

You forgot to make the directory "/and" as root user.
Change to root access and do:

#mkdir /and

then you should be able to mount the partition /dev/mmcblk1p2 on /and
Nokia n900

Hello Gurus :)

I have experimented something on my N900 for NitDriod i.e. downloaded NITDroid Autoinstaller to ./MyDocs i.e. root directory of N900 and installed it.

Now, i hv NITDriod UN-ins and Nokia Kernel where my programs are but am still unable to use NITDriod :( maybe am missing setting boot sequence or something else.

Any help would highly be appreciated.

Hi,

I wonder if you need an sd card because I saw in others, yes, but not seen in this tutorial.
